Hello Rebel Souls!
Living with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) can be a constant balancing act, and some days are definitely harder than others. Over time, I’ve found a few products that help me manage daily challenges, keep myself grounded, and add a little comfort to those tough days. Whether you’re dealing with FND or another chronic condition, having tools that support your wellbeing can make a world of difference. Here are my favorite products that help me get through life with FND:
1. Loop Earplugs: Experience & Engage
Dealing with overstimulation is a huge part of living with FND, and sometimes noise is the biggest culprit. That’s where my Loop Earplugs come in! I have both the Experience and Engage versions, and they’re lifesavers when I need to dial down the sensory overload. The Experience plugs are great for reducing background noise in busy places, while the Engage plugs are perfect when I still need to hear some sounds, like conversations, but in a more manageable way. They’ve become a must-have for me in crowded or noisy environments, helping reduce anxiety and manage symptoms. You can find out more about Loops HERE!
2. Spotify for Audiobooks and Music
Reading can sometimes set off my tics, or I struggle to absorb information when I’m feeling particularly foggy. That’s why Spotify is such a helpful tool in my day-to-day life. I can listen to audiobooks when reading isn’t an option, and I turn to music to either lift my mood or help me relax on more difficult days. Whether it’s a gripping audiobook or a calming playlist, having this resource helps me manage both the mental and emotional aspects of living with FND. You can find out more about Spotify HERE!
3. Weekly Planner
Having a planner is essential for me because my memory can be terrible due to the disorder. I forget things almost instantly, so writing everything down is my saving grace. My weekly planner from Temu is a tool I rely on every single day to keep track of appointments, to-do lists, and reminders. The layout is perfect, and having everything organized in one place helps ease the anxiety of forgetting something important. You can check out the Planner I like to use HERE!
4. Cozy Blanket
There are days when the fatigue and soreness from FND are so overwhelming that all I can do is rest. On those days, having a cozy blanket to curl up under makes a huge difference. I find comfort in being wrapped up in something warm and soft—it makes resting feel like a little act of self-care. It doesn’t fix everything, but it does help me feel a little more supported when my body is at its worst. You can get cozy blankets from Kmart for a reasonable price.
5. Delicious Tea Blends from Tea Tek Co.
If you know me, you know I love a good cup of tea! Right now, I’m obsessed with the tea blends from Tea Tek Co. My amazing mother-in-law gifted me a set with eight different flavours, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Some of my favourites include Earl Grey Crème Brûlée, Blueberry Macaroon, and Caramel Chamomile. Yes, they taste as delicious as they sound! Sipping on one of these teas feels like a small but luxurious moment of joy, and it’s a comforting ritual when I’m feeling low. Check out their range of teas HERE!
6. Shakti Mat
When my neck, shoulders, and back are sore from muscle spasms, my Shakti mat is a game-changer. The acupressure points help relieve tension and soothe aching muscles. Lying on the mat for even just a few minutes helps relax my body and provides relief after a flare-up of symptoms. It’s a great tool for easing pain naturally and promoting relaxation. Find out more about Shakti Mats HERE!
7. My Water Bottle with Hydration Tracker
Staying hydrated is crucial, especially when dealing with chronic illness, and my water bottle with a hydration tracker helps me stay on top of it. I take it everywhere I go, and knowing how much I’ve drunk throughout the day ensures that I’m getting enough fluids, which helps with my overall well-being and energy levels. It’s a simple but essential tool that makes a big difference. My water bottle is from Temu, you can check it out HERE!
8. Comfortable Shoes
Living with FND means my feet sometimes curl up or don’t stay flat on the ground, which can make walking tricky. I wear Sketchers shoes as they are not only super comfy, but also hide the fact that my feet aren’t always in the right position. They give me better stability when walking, helping me feel more confident and steady without drawing attention to my feet.
9. Easy Crafts (Notebook Covers and Miniatures)
When I have enough energy, getting creative is a fantastic way for me to unwind. I love making notebook covers using scrapbooking paper, stickers, and other decorations. I’ve found it’s cheapest to buy Kraft notebooks from Kmart, and then miniature kits and other items from Temu. It’s a fun, low-energy activity that keeps my hands busy without overexerting myself. Another hobby I enjoy is making miniatures—it’s incredibly satisfying to see a tiny project come together. Crafting gives me a sense of accomplishment and helps me stay present, which can be really grounding when I’m having a tough time with my symptoms.
10. My Mega Printable Bundle
Mindset is key when managing FND, so I created my own Mega Printable Bundle to keep myself in a good headspace. It includes a Gratitude Journal, Affirmation Cards, Reflective Journaling Prompts, and Self-Care Cards. These printables help me stay positive and focused on what I can control, especially on difficult days. Whether it’s practicing gratitude, reinforcing positive affirmations, or taking a moment for self-reflection, these resources keep me grounded and mentally strong. You can find them in the Rebel Soul Store HERE!
Living with FND or any chronic illness can be a challenge, but having the right tools and products on hand can make it a little easier. These items, whether they provide comfort, help you manage symptoms, or simply bring some joy to your day, have become essentials for me, and I hope they can offer some relief and comfort to you as well. Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried any of these products or if you have any other favourites that help you navigate life with chronic illness!
Take care of yourself,
Linda x
